Show creator Taylor Sheridan even hired a team of historians to assist in creating a historically accurate depiction of the period. The film does this spectacularly well, accurately portraying the socioeconomic conditions of the time with meticulous attention to detail in set design. According to Executive Producer David Glasser, every set, prop, and costume was built from the ground up to ensure careful attention to detail, something Sheridan prides himself on. This attention to detail is a typical feature of his work and it was evident in the neo-western crime film Wind River. It is safe to say that Sheridan endeavors to be as precise as possible, and that is an excellent quality in a filmmaker.

<![CDATA[ Is 'Yellowstone' Spin-off '1883' Based on a Book?]]> It's been a few years since Taylor Sheridan's Western epic 1883 dropped on Paramount+, but the fact that we're still talking about it is a pretty good sign of the limited series' popularity. The Yellowstone prequel, set over a century before the Kevin Costner-helmed series, 1883 united the likes of Sam Elliot, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Isabel May (to name a few) to explain the origins of the Dutton's Yellowstone Ranch. But what was the story for 1883 based on? Is it based on true accounts from the late 1800s, or maybe a book? Well, the answer may surprise you.

<![CDATA[Is Tom Hanks' '1883' Character Based on a Real Person?]]> There's no denying that Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel series 1883 is something of a Western television epic. The Paramount+ series offers an honest portrayal of the harshness of the American West and expands upon an era of US history that we can't fully seem to get past. As the Dutton family – led by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's James and Margaret Dutton – make their way northwestward, they encounter plenty of historical figures. But none were more exciting than the surprise appearance by none other than Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks, who shows up in a Civil War flashback in the second episode, "Behind Us, a Cliff."

<![CDATA[This Is '1883's Hottest Moment ]]> Taylor Sheridan quickly became a household name with his Western drama series Yellowstone. The series follows the Dutton family (led by Kevin Costner’s John Dutton), who own the largest ranch in Montana. It weaves an intricate line of drama, romance, mystery, and murder, and became a huge success. In fact, it was so successful it went on to spawn a franchise with many spin-offs in various timelines. The most recent of which was the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led 1923, which promptly saw an earlier generation of the Dutton family navigate the early 20th century. But back in December 2021, we got the first addition to the Yellowstone universe with 1883, which follows the late 19th-century generation of Duttons, led by James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill), as they head across the plains in search of a place to call home.

<![CDATA[Is Billy Bob Thornton's '1883' Character Based on a Real Person?]]> In the second episode of the first season of Taylor Sheridan's Western drama 1883, there is an appearance by a very well-known actor who plays the Marshal of Fort Worth, Texas. The cast of the Yellowstone prequel series is led by Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Isabel May, who play James, Margaret, and Elsa of the renowned Dutton family, the descendants of whom now run the Yellowstone Ranch in Sheridan's flagship show. In 1883, however, Billy Bob Thornton's cameo is one of the most memorable turns of the spinoff's first and only season to date. Thornton is a natural fit for the genre period piece, given his Southern drawl and purposeful swagger, but his performance also left us wondering if the character he plays in 1883 is actually a real-life person from history.

<![CDATA['1883' Ending Explained: A Bittersweet Finale for the Duttons]]> Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for 1883 and Yellowstone. In the wake of the Western Renaissance we've found ourselves in, shows like 1883 are impressive feats to be celebrated. Though the limited series was a one-and-done deal, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe has sparked a wave of Western content that continues to delight. Whether you enjoy neo-Westerns or good, old fashion tales of the Old West, there's something in the revived genre for everybody. But, despite its success, for some the story of 1883 seemed too standalone, and, given the harsh ending, a bit confusing as to how it all turns out.

<![CDATA[How Taylor Sheridan Wrecked the Future of ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1883’]]> If there’s one thing that Paramount+ executives don’t regret, it's having said yes to the Yellowstone project. The Kevin Costner-led series not only ended up becoming one of the streaming platform’s tentpole series – with viewership numbers reaching new records every season – but also spawned the creation of spin-offs that have become incredibly popular. But one person underestimated the Yellowstone-verse potential: Its own creator. In an interview with Deadline late last year, director and screenwriter Taylor Sheridan reveals that he made a huge mistake with one of the spin-offs, 1883.
